The resort
Ischgl sits at 1,377 m in the Paznaun valley. Three gondolas serve a compact village with busy bars, so check both lift access and the immediate surroundings of your accommodation.
The skiing
The Silvretta Arena has 239 km of slopes shared with Samnaun across the Swiss border. The Silvrettabahn, Pardatschgratbahn and Fimbabahn provide access from Ischgl toward Idalp and the wider area. Plan cross-border routes around the linking lifts and leave enough time to return.
Snow & weather
Most skiing is above 2,000 m in open bowls; the village is at 1,377 m. The published season runs November 26 to May 2 on the current official dates. The month-by-month record, in °C and °F, is on the Ischgl snow & weather page.
Lessons & ski schools
Ischgl offers group and private ski instruction. For beginners, confirm the meeting point and the lift ticket needed for lessons before buying a pass for the whole area.
Passes
The VIP Ski Pass for Ischgl/Samnaun is available for short stays to guests with an Ischgl/Mathon guest card. If you stay in Galtür, Kappl or See, check the applicable Silvretta Ski Pass instead. The VIP season ticket has different eligibility rules. Compare the products in the official ticket-shop FAQ before buying.
Where to stay
In Ischgl, compare walking routes to the three gondolas. For a quieter base, compare other Paznaun villages: Galtür (the mountaineering village at the head of the valley), Kappl and little See share the valley bus line and the Silvretta pass tier.
Getting there
Take the train to Landeck-Zams, then bus line 260 up the Paznaun every half hour. Innsbruck is the nearest airport at about 100 km, with Friedrichshafen (~170 km), Memmingen (~190 km), Munich (~230 km) and Zurich (~235 km) all workable.
Beyond the pistes
The Silvretta Therme has spa and sauna facilities with a 25 m sports pool, right in the village. Twice a week the mountain stays open after dark for the 7 km night toboggan run from the top of the Silvrettabahn: 950 vertical meters by sled. Après-ski venues open from mid-afternoon.
Who it suits
Ischgl suits skiers who want to cover a large linked area and spend evenings in a busy village. For a quieter base, compare Galtür or Kappl, allowing for the valley bus and the different pass eligibility.
