Resources

Official resort, transport and weather sources for planning your trip. Check current lift openings, travel schedules and forecasts close to departure.

Official sites

  • Châtel tourist office: the resort's own site, and the first place to look for piste status, webcams, the snow report, the winter bus timetable and what's on in the village.
  • Portes du Soleil: the area site covering the full 12-resort cross-border circuit: passes, the circuit map, and area-wide lift information.
  • Châtel lift passes: the lift company's own site: buy or reload a pass, and check the current season's prices and durations.

Pass prices, age bands and piste counts all change between seasons, so treat the official pages as the authority over anything else you read. Check them before booking.

Weather & snow

  • Snow-Forecast: Châtel: a detailed mountain forecast broken down by altitude, which matters in an area where the valley can be wet while the top is snowing.
  • Météo-France mountain bulletins: the official avalanche risk bulletins (BERA). Châtel sits in the Chablais massif, so that's the one to read. Essential before any off-piste day.

Read a snow forecast and the avalanche bulletin together rather than relying on either alone, and check the bulletin again on the morning itself. It's also worth confirming your travel insurance covers winter sports, off-piste and mountain rescue specifically; plenty of standard policies exclude all three.

Close to departure, use a current mountain forecast. Use our snow-&-weather-by-month pages to choose the month, and the live sources above to pack for the week.

Summer in the Portes du Soleil

  • Pass'Portes du Soleil: the area's big summer mountain-biking event, and a good way into what the Portes du Soleil offers once the snow has gone.
