The resort
Malbun sits in a high valley at 1,600 m and is Liechtenstein's only winter-sports resort. Tourism here started with a spa hotel in 1908 and the first lifts arrived in 1962; today it is a family-oriented village (the Swiss Tourism Association's "families welcome" mark, held since 2007) with a compact layout.
The skiing
Three chairlifts serve slopes rising to 2,000 m: Hochegg and Sareis have four seats, while Täli has six heated seats and weather hoods, installed in 2006. There is also the Schneeflucht drag lift. The Sareis ridge has views into Austria and Switzerland; the free malbi-park has a snow carousel, magic carpet and pony lift.
Snow & weather
The published lift season runs December 19, 2026 to April 4, 2027. The month-by-month record, in °C and °F, is on the Malbun snow & weather page.
Lessons & ski schools
Schneesportschule Malbun offers group and private ski and snowboard courses, including lessons for young children. Confirm the minimum age and whether a course is instruction or supervised childcare before booking.
Passes
Choose a day, half-day or multi-day ticket according to how much skiing you plan. Family and season passes are also available through the official shop. Winter season-pass holders can use the country’s buses to Malbun without an additional fare; check the terms for your ticket.
Where to stay
The village is one compact bowl: hotels and vacation apartments sit within a few minutes of the lifts and the malbi-park, and the 1908 Kurhaus heritage survives in its hotel stock. Basing in Vaduz or the Rhine valley and riding the bus up works for combined city-and-snow trips.
Getting there
Malbun has no rail access of its own: the useful railheads are Buchs SG (7 km from Vaduz), Feldkirch (15 km) and Sargans (17 km), then the LIEmobil line 21 bus from Vaduz up to Malbun: up to every 15 minutes in vacation periods, free with a winter season pass, with free ski buses feeding from the valley towns. Drivers exit the Swiss N13 highway at Vaduz and climb via Triesenberg and Steg.
Beyond the pistes
Off the slopes, consider sledding at Täli, Sareis or nearby Steg, or a winter walk around the valley. The village also has ice activities. For an indoor day, compare the museums in Vaduz and the bus journey down.
Who it suits
Malbun’s compact area and free children’s park suit families and beginners. Skiers seeking a larger network of pistes should compare it with the bigger resorts across the borders.
