The resort

Méribel’s villages rise from Les Allues at 1,100 m through Méribel Village, Méribel Centre at 1,450 m and Morel, to Mottaret at 1,750 m. Buildings follow the resort’s wood-and-stone planning style. The valley is near the center of the 3 Vallées, with 85% of its ski area above 1,800 m.

The skiing

From the La Chaudanne hub, the Saulire Express climbs to La Saulire and drops into Courchevel (Mottaret has its own route up via Pas du Lac); the Rhodos gondolas provide a route toward Courchevel over the Col de la Loze; the Legends and Cherferie lifts cross to Saint-Martin-de-Belleville; and the Côte Brune gondola opens the Val Thorens side. These links give access to the 600 km 3 Vallées area. Allow enough time to return across the linking lifts.

Snow & weather

The home slopes face mostly east and west off the valley's ridges, and the altitude spread matters: Mottaret keeps its snow noticeably better than the villages below Méribel Centre. The month-by-month record, in °C and °F, is on the Méribel snow & weather page.

Lessons & ski schools

ESF Méribel offers ski and snowboard lessons, with Club Piou-Piou for ages 3 to 5 and the Les Saturnins nursery from 18 months. Confirm availability, hours and the meeting point; nursery care and ski lessons are separate bookings.

Passes

Choose between the Méribel Valley pass and the full 3 Vallées pass according to the terrain you plan to ski. Family and beginner products have their own conditions. Compare current prices and eligibility through the lift operators at skipass-meribel.com and skipassmeribelmottaret.com.

Where to stay

Méribel Centre has shops, bars and the La Chaudanne lifts at the bottom of the home runs. Mottaret at 1,750 m is a higher base close to the slopes; Méribel Village and Les Allues are quieter bases, linked in by lift and free bus; hamlets like Morel and the Altiport quarter offer other places to stay.

Getting there

The railhead is Moûtiers-Salins-Brides-les-Bains, with the D90 climbing the final 18 km from Moûtiers. Geneva, Lyon, Grenoble and Chambéry airports all serve the valley: compare transfer times for your flight and arrival day. By road it's the A43 to Albertville then the N90; winter tires or chains apply (November 1 to March 31).

Beyond the pistes

The Parc Olympique, built for the 1992 Games, has an ice rink and pool. Other options include spas, fitness centers, toboggan runs with night sessions, and signposted winter walking paths through the valley.

Who it suits

Méribel’s central position suits groups planning to explore both neighboring valleys. Compare Mottaret for altitude with Village and Les Allues for a quieter base, and check the nursery or lesson location for younger children.
