The resort
Vogel isn't a village: it's a mountain plateau at 1,535 m inside Triglav National Park, above Lake Bohinj, with the ski area spread across it with views of the Julian Alps. The base is at Ukanc by the lake; most visitors stay in the Bohinj valley and ride up.
The skiing
The cable car climbs from Ukanc (569 m) to the plateau, where 22 km of slopes spread between 1,535 and 1,800 m: the Brunarica and Orlove glave chairlifts, the old Šija single chair, the new circular-cabin Zadnji Vogel lift and a handful of T-bars. Runs include Brunarica, Orlove glave, Konta, with a snowpark and a children's park; there is also Žagarjev graben, the roughly 7 km descent to the valley when conditions allow.
Snow & weather
Vogel relies on natural snow, so operating dates and coverage vary with the season. Check current lift and snow reports before booking. The Vogel snow and weather page shows the longer-term monthly pattern in °C and °F.
Lessons & ski schools
Vogel Ski School, Ski Finžgar and Alpinsport provide instruction on the plateau. Allow for the cable-car journey from Ukanc when booking a lesson, and confirm the meeting point and equipment arrangements.
Passes
Day and half-day passes (morning or afternoon), multi-day and season tickets plus family day tickets, with children under 6 skiing free with a parent. Passes cover the cable car and all lifts, and day tickets sell online through vogel.si.
Where to stay
Stay either on the plateau (the Murka mountain hut, Chalet Ruša by the top station, a handful of apartments) for accommodation by the ski area; or the Bohinj valley, from Ukanc around the lake to Ribčev Laz and Bohinjska Bistrica, where the hotels, restaurants and winter life are.
Getting there
Ljubljana airport is about 50 km from Bohinj (Klagenfurt 70 km, Trieste 200 km). The Bohinj railway runs from Jesenice to Bohinjska Bistrica, with a car-transport train continuing through the ridge toward the Soča, and buses link Bled and the lake villages. The cable-car base at Ukanc has free parking, and boats and lakeside paths provide other connections when operating conditions allow.
Beyond the pistes
Winter walking paths run near Lake Bohinj, with cross-country trails elsewhere in the valley. Check local trail conditions before setting out, including on the Savica waterfall route. Bohinjska Bistrica’s ice rink is an alternative to skiing.
Who it suits
Vogel can be a ski stop during a Bled–Bohinj winter trip. Its compact area relies on natural snow, so keep plans flexible and check coverage before committing to a longer stay.
Quick answers
How do you reach the Vogel ski area? Take the cable car from Ukanc at the western end of Lake Bohinj. It climbs from 569 m to the plateau station at 1,535 m. The skiing happens entirely up top, between the plateau and 1,800 m, inside Triglav National Park.
Does Vogel have snowmaking? Vogel relies entirely on natural snow. The plateau's altitude and aspect hold it well (the operator claims skiing from November to May in good years), but limited natural snow can restrict the open terrain.
Is Vogel good for a day trip? The 22 km area above Lake Bohinj is about an hour from Ljubljana’s airport region. Many visitors ski a day or two of a Bled–Bohinj winter vacation rather than basing a full ski week here.
